Winners - Challenge #11 Crazy For Colour

Hi, Branka here with the winners of the 'Crazy For Colour' challenge. Thank you so much for all the fantastic vibrant entries and I am amazed at how many beautiful and colourful projects we received! Oh, it was extremely difficult for me to pick just one winner and a runner-up but after a long going back and forth here is my winner

WINNER#55 - Kris
A stunning abstract piece of art with such rich textures and a fantastic explosion of colours! Awesome layering and a fabulous use of art stones and cotton pieces! This glorious project has stolen my heart!

Congratulations Kris!  Pamellia will be in touch by email to send you a personalized winner's badge and to provide details about being our Feature Artist for the next challenge.

And now for the Runner-Up

RUNNER-UP# 22 - Joi@RR
Fabulous colourful and bold piece brilliantly put together. Amazing crackle effect and awesome whimsical flowers! This project really adds sunshine to ones day!

Now let's have a look at our DT favourites:

Anne's Favourite - #55 Kris
I was completely and utterly blown away by the wonderful textures Kris created and the colours are sensational, on this bold and beautiful piece of art.

Cec's Favourite - #55 Kris
I couldn't help choosing this as my favourite as well.  The colours are bold and bright but the texture is over-the-top fabulous.  When I saw this my first thought was a coral bed in some sea somewhere exotic and I immediately wanted to go there and look at it from a glass bottomed boat - no scuba diving for me.

Niki's Favourite - #69-Rina
Rina's design has all the lovely colors of the rainbow and each color is so vibrant and fun. I adore this design and the splitz and splatters she created on her background. The bonus are the gorgeous colors of the flowers and the little butterflies fluttering around. Amazing and gorgeous design! Carpe Diem!

Pamellia's Favourites -

38. zosiurkowa muma
This piece grabbed my eye the minute I saw it! All the gorgeous textures, amazing dimension and vibrant spring greens topped off with lots of pink flowers!! What's not to love!

 87. Gail Lett
I am just blown away with this vibrant card!! These colours just explode off the page and there is so much interest packed into just one layer, how could I resist! Stunning work Gail!

Samra's Favourite - #95 Elena Vinogradova
Gorgeous design in bright colors. The white doily against the neon bricks is what caught my eye and stole my heart! Elena has amazing style and grace in her work.

Sara Emily's Favourites

#90 Marty Fishman
Scribbly Bird tags
Look at all these wonderful colors,  not only on the birds but on those wonderful backgrounds!  And what made this project extra special is the love that went into it, as Marty prepared this for her daughter.  I always love it when something is made especially for a loved one!

Here I go breaking the rules again, but I truly could not pick between Marty's and another's colorful projects so my favorite is both of them!

#97-Amanda Pink

I mean!  Look at those amazing colors! Wow, Amanda!  You took that hippie era look right out of my head and executed it beautifully! I love the bold colors with the black silhouettes shaded with white. Rock on, Amanda!

Winners - Challenge #10 - Grungy Love

Hello, it's Sara Emily here, and I've got to do  the most difficult task of being hostess for last month's challenge--pick a winner and runner-up!  Thank you for all your AMAZING grungy entries; I'm amazed at how many fabulous grungy love projects we received!  In my heart you ALL are winners, but I'm limited to choosing just one --so without further ado, here is the winner!

WINNER - # 33 Nikki Acton
Nikki created so many grungy layers on her canvas with incredible textures and gorgeous grungy metallic colors! This artwork is like four different projects in one, and has provided me with enough inspiration to last me a year! Wow!  You've got to visit her blog to see all her amazing techniques!

Congratulations Nikki!  Pamellia will be in touch by email to send you a personalized winner's badge and to provide details about being our Guest Designer for the next challenge.

And now for the Runner(s) Up!  I couldn't possibly pick just one!

RUNNER-UP - # 21 Aisha
Aisha added so many artfully arranged embellishments to her grungy heart, but my favorites are that little caged fairy popping out at the center of it all and the fairy dangling at the bottom (not shown in photo).  Beautiful colors, too! I could sit and stare at this for hours, and this is one I'd like to hold in my hands to get a real good look-see!

RUNNER-UP - # 36 Mayoori
.
I adore Mayoori's crusty lock, key, and chain on her altered bottle, but the entire project is just beautifully grungy!  I also loved that she included a step by step of her work--I'm a curious crafter, and it helps me to appreciate her work that much more!

Now let's have a look at our DT favourites:

Anne's Favourite - #59 Joi@RR
To be honest, I had about 4 favourites but I just love how Joi put this canvas together, the black heart the chainsaw chain surrounding it, the gorgeous colours, the texture, it just screams grungy love!

Branka's Favourite#2 Tracy Evans
Gorgeous aged frame with awesome industrial elements. The colours and distressing on the frame are simply fabulous with those amazing splashes of red. A stunning piece of art so cleverly put together.

Cec's Favourite - #8 Boozybear
There were two parts to this tag that struck my fancy.  The background has some wonderful texture and colour to make it grungy on its own.  Then add to that the fabulous steampunk heart that started life as a piece of styrofoam from the dollar store and was transformed into a grungy work of art.

Niki's Favourite -#53 Merethe Arstein
What I really like about this altered egg is the love behind it. Merethe made this for her son and every element that she added represents a memory or something that her son likes. I can only imagine the time and love that went into this grungy egg and it will remain a treasure for her son for years to come. That's grungy love!

Pamellia's Favourites:
#25. Anna
I am so in love with Anna's creativity on this canvas. The way she carries the pattern around the edges of the canvas is amazing. You should pop in and see her close up shots, so the detail of her project can be truly seen!

45. Elli
I was just captivated by this drop dead gorgeous piece! The brilliant colours mixed with soft flowers and filigree butterflies just grabbed me and pulled me right in! Shabby goodness at it mixed media finest!! LOVE IT!

Samra's Favourite - #27 Elena Vinogradova
Stunning work of art with details that are special and meaningful to the recipient, just like certain details and charms that I added on my Grungy Love card :) I am so glad that I stumbled upon this creation while browsing the web, it simply stole my heart!

Outstanding Technique
To me, outstanding technique has more than one meaning. Sometimes it's trying something new and getting an incredible result, sometimes it's perfecting an old technique to make it new and exciting, and sometimes it's mastering a style that is considered difficult to others.

A style that I find super hard to do with any degree of success is One Layer/CAS Mixed Media Cards. It's a tough one to pull off, and this month we had not just one, but three absolutely gorgeous entries that were crisp, clean, simple and grungy - all at the same time! To these ladies, I say...YOU HAVE OUTSTANDING TECHNIQUE!

#3 - Suzz                             #4 - Loll                              #16 - Ksenija

Honourable Mentions:

I think this may have been the toughest Honourable Mention board to date. There were so many outstanding projects last month, and we truly loved each and every project in the end! In the order of entry, our Honourable Mentions are...

6. Kerstin                  11. Jane R.                18. Lula                     19. Lozzy

34. IrinaR                 44. Autumn               52. Suzz               54. Elizabeth

Challenge #10 - Grungy Love

Hello Everyone!

Sara Emily  here and I am your hostess this for this month's challenge here at Anything But Cute. I'm sending out a huge thank you to all you talented artists, new and seasoned, who participated in Anne's Ring Out the Old, Bring in the New challenge last month.  It was great fun to see how you used your new goodies! Don't forget to check back with us next Friday when Anne and the team announce the winners of the Ring Out the Old, Bring in the New challenge. Now on to this month's theme.

I was inspired to come up with this month's theme, because masculine projects are often the most difficult for most of us.  Maybe this challenge will help you make something for that special man in your life. But, it could be for a favorite female friend or relative, too! After all, girls like grunge, too!

GRUNGY LOVE

To celebrate St. Valentine's Day, we would like to see you make a Grungy Valentine's project for your sweetheart!  It can be a card, tag, or anything else you might give a loved one to show them how much you care. Just be sure it's grungy!

***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!

Anne - Redanne
For my sweetheart's Valentine I used a wood base, lots of paint in his favourite colours, some random stamping and a grungy crackled heart and some 'industrial' embellishing.

Branka - Vintage Handmade
I made this grungy Valentine card for my husband and I used some puzzle pieces to create the heart. I also used some metal corners and such from the garage, some Idea-ology embellishments, a bottle cap, metal roses, chicken wire and a lot of different pastes, paints and powders to create this.

Cec - CW Card Creations
I have created a grungy valentine card with a few feminine touches.  There is lots of ink smooshing, spraying and spritzing along with texture paste, stenciling, altered metals and a dose of crackle.

Niki - Pawsitively Creative Crafts
I mended my friends broken heart (artistically speaking) and created this canvas to remind her that her "Destination is Unknown" for love right now but she will find the perfect guy one day. Texture paste, stencils, stamps, and Colour Arte silks helped create this design. As well as some little hook things I found in with my new sewing machine. Carpe Diem!

Pamellia - My Little Craft Things
I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to put together a Valentine's card for my hubby. Lots of ink sprays, paints and crackle glaze...and of course dimension. It just wouldn't feel right if I didn't add a flower or two, so I grunged them up as well!

Samra - Paper Talk with Samra
I used Heart Stencil, texture paste, distress paint and ink to create my heart background and embellished the card with various ephemera trinkets and such.

Sara Emily - Sarascloset
I upcycled an old candy box, a necklace chain and a tag from a water heater to make this grungy gift box.  I used gesso, paints, embossing powders, sprays. inks, and mediums to make my paper to cover the box and and  to make and alter my embellishments.

***

Wow, ladies!  You sure do know the way to a grungy girl's heart!  Your grungy projects are just so novel and sure to please that special someone! Please hop over to the team blogs to see more photos and get some details on how these projects were made. And don't forget to leave some bloggy love while you're there.

I hope that we have inspired you to get messy  this month and make a grungy card, tag, or whatever you want to make for someone special for Valentine's Day! Please be sure it's GRUNGY -- as you can see from our samples, any color will work!

The winner will receive the honour of being our Guest Designer for an upcoming challenge!

Here at Anything But Cute we just love to see all the seasoned and expert mixed media artists, but we also want to encourage those who are just getting their feet wet. Our design team will always be on the lookout for these exceptional projects and artists. You just never know when we might be giving out something special to a lucky mixed media newcomer. We all have to start somewhere, right?

Challenge runs until March 4th - we can't wait to see what you come up with! Happy Crafting from the entire team and thanks for visiting Anything But Cute!
