Niki here and I am your hostess this for this month's challenge here at Anything But Cute. Thank you to everyone that was able to join us last month for Autumn's challenge. It seems that the theme was a big hit with you all and so many lovely entries!Don't forget to check back with us on November 12th, when Autumn and the team announce the winners of the "Autumn Day" challenge. Now on to this month's theme.
Can you believe that it is November already? I hope all of you had a spooktacular Halloween and got to see some amazing costumes! Now that we are into November and the weather is turning cold I find myself starting indoor projects. This challenge theme was inspired by my major overhaul of my master bedroom. I made a DIY rustic whitewashed wall and the entire room has a rustic glam vibe to it thanks to the wood accent wall and a chandelier. Isn't it fun to combine two hobbies?
RUSTIC GLAM
Think of Southern charm meeting some Bling Bling. Create a mixed media design featuring rustic elements such as whitewashed wood, chicken wire, burlap, soft subtle tones and neutrals. Don't forget to add the GLAM part with some sparkle and BLING!
***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!
I decided to create a framed mixed media home decor item for my bedroom. I've had this awesome deep frame for ages and decided to do a little collage featuring one of my favorite Verve stamps inside. I used neutral tones with touches of sequins, vintage glitter and pearls to complete my rustic glam framed art.
I used my mini burlap panel (reversed side), my DecoArt white crackle paint and my Chalky finish paints, a Stampendous Shabby Blue embossing enamel, some dies and some flat back pearls to create my rustic Christmas window for this wonderful Niki's challenge theme.
I love Niki's theme of Rustic Glam!! I upcycled an old bamboo box lamp by covering it in super-heavy gesso and then crackle medium. Once the cracks appeared, I added antiquing medium and replaced the bamboo with chicken wire mesh decorated with glitter. For added glam, I finished it off by stringing crystals that sparkle in the light :)
I went with a faux deer head (the only type that I would ever have in my house) and added some wood stain, acrylic paints, sanding techniques, stencils, modeling paste and of course I had to add the bling bling with some diamonds and faux snow. Yeppers, snow. Carpe Diem!
Niki's theme is so much fun! Rustic and glam is such an interesting combination of elements! I used crackle and wood grain, burlap and chicken wire, gilding and bling to make my mixed media card. I have a brief tutorial on my blog for the easy peasy wood grain if you'd care to take a look.

AN AUTUMN DAY
I could not help but chose October as my month to hostess here at Anything But Cute. This month, we want to see your creations inspired by An Autumn Day. Anything goes mixed media with an fall color palette, or Autumnal elements. Be inspired by nature with the sights, smells, and sounds of this beautiful season. We cannot wait to see the amazing artwork you turn out!
***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!
I love this time of year, the changing leaf colours, finding acorns and chestnuts, the crisp Autumn air.... all of it! I have tried to capture the colours of Autumn in my wall hanging, made with Tim Holtz products, including dies, burlap and Distress Spray Stains.
I was inspired by our fearless leader Pamellia and her love for nature, particularly squirrels. With today being Pamellia's birthday, I just had to do a canvas in her honor. I used the beautiful colors of fall along with natural elements and a sweet squirrel image. It is such a joy to share with her a love for mixed media and for nature. Happy birthday Pamellia! I hope you have an amazing autumn day!
I was inspired by Autumn's fabulous challenge theme to create an abstract mixed media canvas using my new favourite products from Pebeo mixed media line. I had so much fun playing with Fantasy Moon, Prisme and Vitrail paints. I also used my golden leaves and contour paints in creating my canvas.
I love Autumn's fitting theme of a project inspired by an Autumn day!! Fall colors are some of my favorite...vibrant reds and oranges and yellows!! I incorporated them into my project using a mixture of Dylusions inks to create the background, along with distress inks, texture paste and crackle medium.
When thinking of an Autumn Day, I think about harvesting season for all the farms and also about the changing of the leaves on all the trees. So many gorgeous colors! For this canvas I decided to use lots of Distress Inks, some stencils, chippies, and acorns that I gathered from my Grandmothers house last year. Carpe Diem!
Fall is my favorite time of the year, and I always have a blast crafting for the season. Most people who know me, know that I am a Halloween nut, so it took everything I had to resist putting something spooky on my wall hanging. Lots of mixed media techniques were used on this, but I also just did some plain old coloring of my stamped pumpkin and vines--what fun! Thank you to Autumn for choosing such an inspiring theme!

I am simply amazed with the beautiful work of my teamies! Their projects are simply stunning and most inspiring. Please hop over to each team member's blog to see more photos and get some details on how these projects were made. And don't forget to leave some bloggy love while you're there.
We hope that we have inspired you to break out those autumnal palettes and mixed media products to create your own autumn masterpiece. The winner of this challenge will receive the honour of being our Feature Artist for an upcoming challenge!

Branka here and I am your hostess this for this month's challenge here at Anything But Cute. First, I would like to thank everyone who participated in Lisa's amazing 'Shabby Garden Mood Board' challenge last month with all their fabulous shabby garden projects! It was a pleasure to see all your gorgeous entries! Don't forget to check back with us next Monday when Lisa and the team announce the winners of the 'Shabby Garden Mood Board' challenge. Now on to this month's theme.
I believe that friendship is one of the most important things in our life and that everyone needs a good friend to count on. We all have at least one really good friend who we love and cherish. So, this challenge theme is dedicated to our lovely friends.
FRIENDSHIP
Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between two or more people. We want you to show us a mixed media creation that's inspired by friendship. You can create anything, from tags to art journal pages but make sure it's a mixed media piece. Let's celebrate friendship together!
***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!
Hmm, what has this got to do with friendship? My lovely friend Sandy and I have been blog friends for a few years now and we love to send cards/projects/gifts to each other. Sandy very kindly sent me the new Tim Holtz Village Manor die (how lucky am I!) and since we share a love of Halloween, I have made this little scene to send back to her, I hope she likes it!
Very few people can say they have had a best friend since before they can remember, but I am in that lucky minority. My friend Trish remembers our first meeting from kindergarten, when I can't remember that far back! We've been thick as thieves since. Good times and bad, she's stuck by my side and had my back. My DT photo here at Anything But Cute comes from this pic of me happy as can be, because that's how I feel when we are together (and how I feel about being on this fabulous team). <3
Dogs are man's best friend. They are simply awesome and do all of the little things that put smiles on our faces. They give you love, support, understanding and most of all they are loyal. I decided to create an art journal page about our pet friends. I used an old book as a journal, some texture paste, my Decoart media products, a stencil, an old photo from Tim Holtz collection and some frames to create my project.
I love Branka's theme of friendship! I created this textured reverse-canvas for one of my oldest friends, celebrating some of her favorite things: nature, flowers, owls and traveling! I included a clock to symbolize the duration of our friendship and incorporated her favorite colors of pink and blue!
While creating a new flower garden in the back yard, my friend and I discovered this hidden treasure. We decided to call it "Mortem Lectulo (latin for "death bed"). The outside is beautifully creepy but when we opened the coffin it revealed a delightful surprise. I believe this was made using chalky paint, distress paint, and some artisan powder la chapeliere and other things, but we are still investigating and researching this pixie coffin. Carpe Diem!
What a lovely and timely theme chosen by our dear Branka! Since my little girl has headed off to college, I wanted to make her a photo frame to hold photos of her besties to keep on her desk. Until she chooses which photos to put in it, I thought I'd offer her a little freshman advice in the meantime. I altered this tiny folding frame (it's just 4 inches tall) using gesso, Distress paints, inks and sprays, and texture paste as my wet media. And as always, there's always two sides to every story. Check out the rest on my blog.

Hello Everyone! Lisa here and I am excited to be your hostess this for this month's challenge here at Anything But Cute. Thank all of you who joined us for our challenge last month! Wow! All of the entries are amazing and it's going to be so hard to choose our favorites! Don't forget to check back with us next Friday when Anne and the team announce the winners of the Summertime Fun challenge. Now on to this month's theme.
There is something so relaxing about strolling through a summer garden blooming with fragrant flowers. When I think of a shabby chic garden, so many images come to mind: coming across a timeworn bench that has been painted so many times over the years, the old paint shows through the worn areas; watching birds take a drink from a fountain that has cracked with age but still stands proudly with regal beauty; birds making a home inside a house that has withstood the elements and still provides a safe haven for the babies about to be born; a couple saying their vows beneath a crystal chandelier hanging from a trellis covered in flowering vines, petals lining the ground. Those images were my inspiration for this month's theme.
SHABBY GARDEN MOOD BOARD
For this challenge, we are asking you to take a stroll through a romantic shabby garden. Create any mixed media project strongly inspired by the mood board. Think flowers and plants in cracked pots, peeling paint bird feeders, distressed timeworn furniture, crumbling statues, soft pastels and feminine accessories. Don't forget to tell us how the mood board inspired your project and have fun!
***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!
I was so inspired by Lisa's gorgeous mood board that I tried to incorporate a little bit of each photo into my card design. I used loads of bits from my stash and also a gift from a lovely friend....
I was inspired by beautiful colors of this amazing mood board to alter the clock. I used some of my Decoart supplies, some Prima embellishments and some natural elements to create this.
I love everything shabby and I love watching the birds in my yard, so I combined the two to create this mixed media birdhouse!! Covered with mega crackle and dripping a carpet of flowers and vines, I wanted to create a shabby oasis for our feathered friends!!
Lisa's shabby moodboard inspired me to create a peeled/chipped paint design featuring "barn doors" that open to reveal elements of my shabby garden. The shutters inspired the shadow box design.
I used 3 different kinds of chalky paint creating 7 layers of paint, some sandpaper and some CHAPSTICK! Yeppers, chapstick. This was a challenge and I think I have finally figured out how to do shabby chic in my own way. Yippee! Carpe Diem!
I was inspired by the colors and peeling paint in Lisa's beautiful mood board, as well as the windows and hearts, and of course the sense of romance. I used Distress and DecoArt products to get my peeled paint look and lots of stuff from my stash to make this shabby wedding card.

Don't forget to check back with us next Tuesday when Niki and the team announce the winners of the Birds and the Bees challenge. Now on to this month's theme.
Here in the UK we don't usually get great summers, but we love to flock to the seaside, come rain or shine. Many of us head off to beautiful foreign places to soak up the sun and local culture, while others prefer a stay-cation, enjoying the garden or exploring our own beautiful countries. I love hearing about and seeing photos of holidays that family and friends have taken and that is what inspired me to choose the theme this month. So, bring on the ...
SUMMERTIME FUN
What does Summertime fun mean to you? Spending time by the seaside, foreign travel, camping in the great outdoors or simply enjoying time in the garden? Create a MIXED MEDIA project focusing on how you like to spend your Summertime. Don't forget to tell us how your project relates to our theme.
***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!
Those who know me, know how much I love the seaside and anything to do with the sea. My dream has always been to own a beach hut by the sea and since part of every holiday includes visiting and photographing beach huts, it seemed natural to create my ideal beach scene....
I enjoy riding my bicycle during the Summertime and it makes me feel so free. I created this messy and bright jumbo tag using my fluo acrylic paints to express how much fun I have during my Summertime.
My most favorite thing about the summer is time spent at the beach (must be the mermaid in me ;) I used just about every medium in my craft room to create this ocean-side canvas: texture paste, crackle glaze, grunge paste, texture sand, glass beads, heavy gesso, sprays, paint and even real sand. The sentiment says it all for me...life is better at the beach!!
I think my favourite thing about summertime is how beautiful the world is. All the blue skies and water with colourful flowers and fresh green foliage. I love it! And you can forget the beautiful creatures too! For my tutorial part of this summery card, I have put together a video. Enjoy!
I made an art journal page to depict my Summertime Fun. I used gesso, sprays, paint, crackle mediums, and few other mixed media products to bring to life a warm summer day at my favorite summer vacation destination. It's more than a place--it's an experience! I hope you'll enjoy a walk through a West Virginia meadow and then sit a spell on porch with me at my blog.

Niki here and I am your hostess for this month's challenge here at Anything But Cute. I have to give you all a HUGE round of applause for joining our Blogiversary celebration! Can you believe it has been a year! Whoot whoot! Thank you to everyone that joins us each month, it is because of YOU that this challenge blog is such a fun place! Yours projects are always delightful to look at! We so enjoy reading your comments and learning more about you through your art! Don't forget to check back with us on June 12th when we, the entire team, announce the winners of the "Celebrate Your Style" challenge. Now on to this month's theme.
Thankfully the warm weather is finally here and I can sit outside and enjoy hearing the sounds of Spring although I don't care for getting stung by wasps. Seems like those critters set up a nice hive in my outdoor umbrella and my dog and I were both stung. Ouch! We are better now and got rid of the hive so everything is good but this helped inspire my theme for this month.
THE BIRDS AND THE BEES
With the lovely warm weather in my neck of the woods, I am seeing so many wonderful birds and bee's, so I would love to see those in your mixed media makes! Pull out those bird stamps, think of feathers and maybe some honeycomb. Or you could even go for a non-traditional interpretation like a family crest that has a bird emblem on it. The sky is the limit!!
***
And now for some inspiration from the talented Anything But Cute design team!
I was thrilled when I saw Niki's wonderful theme as I love birds and bees. I have had this Tim Holtz bee in my stash for ages so it was time to put it to good use. It is also good to remind ourselves, too, of the plight of our bees around the world .....
I couldn't help but make a tag this month in my favorite palette of aqua and brown and feature a beautiful vintage bird image, at home in a nest of book pages. What a great theme! I can't wait to see your entries.
I was inspired by Niki's wonderful theme to create a vibrant card using the Tim Holtz's Birds Crazy stamp set and some of my Dylusions stamps. I also used my Tombow Dual Tip markers, Tombow Irojiten colored pencils and some hand dyed cotton fabrics.
I love Niki's theme of Birds and Bees for this month's challenge!! I sat down to work thinking I was going to create a project featuring our feathered friends...but to my surprise, it turned into one with our winged friends instead!! I used two different honeycomb stencils with texture pastes and covered the bees with crackle glaze for a bit of texture.
Not your traditional thought when thinking about the birds and the bee's but this is how my mind works. Lol! I altered an old book using paper leather, crackle glaze, stenciling, a brayer and lots of lovely chipboard pieces. This is a book about family, their crest and how the bird changed their lives for the better.
I absolutely love Niki's challenge theme and it took me directly to a warm spring morning with the birds singing and fluttering outside my window. I have put together this shabby chic card with that morning in mind. For my tutorial portion of the project, I have put together this video. Enjoy!
It was hard NOT to be inspired by Niki's theme this month, and of course, my mind turned directly to the Love Shack! I designed and constructed the birdhouse, and threw everything at it I could find--paint, ink, crayons, stain, mediums, glazes, etc.-- you'll just have to visit my blog for the messy details! I haven't had so much fun, well, since our last challenge!

I am always amazed about how diverse our team is and this month is no exception! Everything from bright and bold, to 3D with some shabby chic in-between. Ya'll rocked this challenge ladies! Please hop over to the team blogs to see more photos and get some details on how these projects were made. And don't forget to leave some bloggy love while you're there.
I hope that we have inspired you to dig through your hoarded stash and have a BLAST using those art supplies! The winner will receive the honour of being our Feature Artist for an upcoming challenge!

FAVOURITE ARTISTS OF THE YEAR!
I am honoured to introduce you to our very special Guest Designers this month. These ladies consistently entered gorgeous projects into our challenges over the past year, and appeared more than once in our DT Favourites and Honourable Mentions section. The entire team sends out a special thank you to these wonderful artists for all their inspiration and support.
These talented gals have all put together tutorials for you on their blogs, to share their techniques and skills with you. Please do give them a visit and learn more about how they put these stunning projects together!!
Wow - so honored and excited to be here to "party"! I sooooo love these gals at Anything But Cute. They are such incredible artists and some of the most caring and encouraging gals I have met in the art world, to date.
My goal was to create something bright, cheerful and fun in keeping with the happiness of a year of huge successes at ABC. I sure hope you will hop over to my blog and see the step-by-step tutorial, as well as lots of yummy photos!! And guess what? There is even an original poem there for the very special and well deserved ABC Celebration!! Hugs to you all!!! j.
Hello everybody! Congratulations Happy Birthday Blog "Anything But Cute" ! My gift to you - a tutorial for making such an old treasure chest.
To see a tutorial invite you to look into my blog "Скрап-ХоббиМания". Be sure to grasp with itself a cup of coffee. I adore coffee. And still I absolutely love scrap. I met scrapbooking autumn 2012. I like to make albums and canvases. Although at the beginning of the way, I was doing a lot of layouts. Creates in Vintage style, Fabric White Vintage, Shabby, Grunge, and of course, SteamPunk. In almost all of these styles, I use the technique of mix-media. I hope my tutorial will be to you to liking.
Hello, my name is Deb Riddell (better known as Paxton Valley Folk Art around blogland) and I am so happy to be here at Anything But Cute to help them celebrate their one year anniversary, congratulations ABC! I was shocked and honoured to get an email from Pamellia telling me I'd been chosen as one of their favourite artists for the year and thrilled to be asked to be a guest designer, thank you so much.
This month's anniversary theme at Anything But Cute is 'Celebrate Your Style'. My creative style is vintage and I am always inspired by Mother Nature so I used these inspirations to create this dragonfly reverse canvas to celebrate my style. I used lots of layers and techniques to create this canvas and have some step by step photographs on my blog to show you how I made it, so hope you will be able to stop on by.
Thank you again to Pamellia and the design team at Anything But Cute for allowing me to be a part of their anniversary celebration. And I hope that you too will 'Celebrate Your Style' and join in the fun here at ABC, can't wait to see what you make! Happy creating, Deb xo
I was surprised and thrilled when Pamellia e-mailed me to say I had been chosen as an Anything But Cute Favorite Artist of the Year and to invite me to be a Guest Designer to help celebrate their First Year Anniversary! The theme for the challenge is Celebrate Your Style.
I am a fairly new convert to the mixed media style and I'm slowly learning all the layering, painting, and rusting techniques. I tend to be a 'clean and simple' designer which probably sounds very contradictory to mixed media - but that is my style and I'm going to celebrate it!!! I absolutely LOVE books - reading them, holding them, shopping in book
stores for them and making them! So I created a little 4" x 5" x 1 1/2"
book for my project using Eileen Hull's Passport Die from Sizzix.
My overall theme in images and sentiments on the cover and the pages is affirmation and being positive, strong women as we go through life. I invite you to stop by my blog here - to see just how I put this little book together and to see what's inside!
Thank you again, to Pamellia and the rest of the Design Team for inviting me to participate in this celebration! I also look forward to seeing what you create to "Celebrate Your Style". Please join us in the Anything But Cute - First Year Anniversary challenge! Julia
Hello, yes I know I was only here in March as a featured artist but recently I was delighted to receive a lovely email from Pamellia. She gave me the wonderful news that I had been voted by the team as one of their favourite artists of the year. Wow, I am truly humbled by this as there is a lot of fabulous talent around here. Thank you so much.
Pamellia asked me to make something to celebrate the challenge's 1st anniversary which shows "My style". My style is quite feminine but I do like to dip my toe into grunge too. I use a lot of mixed media in my work. I love learning new techniques and trying new products so I think my style is also constantly evolving, just like the world in which we live in. I love art journalling and I also make "Moments" to celebrate family occasions using mixed media. My crafting is totally influenced by the seasons, Mother Nature and my family and often combines all 3.
For this special occasion I decided to make an double art journal spread celebrating allthe seasons. This was a real labour of love and I used lots of techniques. You can see them and more close ups of each season over at my blog here.
I would like to wish the ladies at ATBC a very happy 1st anniversary, where on earth has that year gone? I have really enjoyed entering their challenges and I look forward to continuing to do so. Cheers and birthday hugs, Jane x
Let me start off by saying Thank You to the Anything But Cute Team for picking me as one of the Favourite Crafters! EEK... I cannot believe it.
Nicole here and I am a crafter, blogger and designer where you can find all the things I create and mistakes I make on my blog Nicole Wright Designs.
My style tends to lean towards masculine. I prefer natural colour tones, metal and gears to anything cute. I will usually find a way to take the cute and make it grungy. Stop by my blog and check out a full tutorial on this card including the metallic powders, distress crayons and Sizzix dies.
Stop by and say Hi. Be sure to take a closer look at the gears when you are there.
Hi there! I'm thrilled to be here to help the majorly talented Anything But Cute team celebrate their 1st anniversary! Huge thanks ladies for including me as one of your favourite artists of the year - it's truly an honour.
Shabby chic / vintage is my favourite style and I also love all things nature so to "Celebrate my Style" I've made a trinket box that adapts to the varying seasons. The scene on the top lid represents Spring / Summer and a second scene, inside the lid, depicts chillier winter times. Please pop over to my blog, Paper Profusion, to see lots more pictures.
Wishing Pamellia and all at Anything But Cute a Happy, Happy 1st Anniverary with many congratulations. Wishing you even more success in years to come. Nicola x
Hi everyone! A whole year of fabulous challenges at Anything but Cute……and I have been asked to join the celebrations! I can't tell you how excited I am! What an honour this is to be here as a favourite artist at ABC! Thank You so much!
I don't really have a crafting style - I will give almost anything a go - so eclectic is the word I suppose! I love using up my scraps though, so there's a lot of that on my blog Pearshapedcrafting
The theme here this month is 'Celebrate Your Style'. I do love making little books, and this time I have Paris on my mind - having only returned from Paris 3 weeks ago! It was also chance to use up more of my scrap mountain! I hope you will come and see the inside of my little book!
A very Happy Anniversary to all the talented team at Anything But Cute! Chris
*** OUR AMAZING DESIGN TEAM
Wow, so are you completely blown away by those amazing projects or what!! What a line up of inspiration for you all, and we aren't done yet. We still have some incredible projects to show you from the Anything But Cute Design team!!
I wanted to celebrate my style by creating a sea themed project. Seahorses are my favourite sea creatures so I used three beautiful Seahorse knobs to adorn a mini cabinet, which I altered Andy Skinner style and I used some clay from my stash to make an Octopus ....
For our birthday celebration and my first project with the team, I wanted to create a mixed media mini album. I have been on a cardboard junk journal kick so I worked out a mini accordion version, filled with watercolor puddles, stamps, and grungy texture - all of my favorite things!
I wanted to celebrate my style and our first birthday with this handmade canvas art journal. I used a lot of sewing, hand dyed fabrics, ribbons, some yarn, threads, acrylic paints and markers in creating this vibrant and colourful project.
For my first design team project, I wanted to celebrate my style with a shabby chic canvas. I covered the background using Andy Skinner's Mega Crackle technique and then layered it with my some of my favorite things: crackle paste, crackle paint, texture paste, distress inks, glitter, butterflies, cheesecloth and lots of flowers.
I wanted to celebrate my style by creating something I have never tried before and also using one of my favorite movies as inspiration. Jack Skellington is made from a wire frame and polymer clay, his dog (Zero) is made from polymer clay as well. I used some new molds for the clock and pillars and the bricks around the tombstone were made with a very interesting item that anyone with a die has. Hugz and Carpe Diem!
This card was made for my dear sweet friend and team mate Niki. I have combined patterned papers with mixed media products and home made flowers to create a shabby garden card for her Birthday! Happy Birthday Doc! For my tutorial portion of this, I have made a video. ENJOY!!
To celebrate our birthday at Anything But Cute, and my teamie, Niki's birthday, I made a card for her in my grungy style. I used glue, glass bead gel, Distress inks, paints, crayons, re-inkers, and Crazing Medium, as well as DecoArt Media paints, antiquing creams, and Crackle Glaze--and that's just on the background panel.
